Biography
 

Acclaimed for his "effortless technique and boundless color" (Jed Distler of Gramophone), Swiss-French pianist François-Xavier Poizat has performed in 26 countries in Europe, Asia and the Americas, all before his 30th birthday.

François-Xavier Poizat was catapulted onto the international stage at the age of 12 when Martha Argerich invited him to perform at the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, recognizing his ‘’deep lyricism and remarkable virtuosity’’. He has since performed with orchestras including Suisse Romande and Svizzera Italiana Orchestra, the National du Capitole de Toulouse, the Lithuanian and Armenian National Chamber Orchestras, the Zürich Chamber Orchestra, and the Poznan Philharmonic, among others. He has performed under the baton of Philippe Béran, Thierry Fischer, Neeme Järvi, Lukasc Borowicz, Bernard Labadie, and Frédéric Chaslin, and in prestigious festivals such as Roque d’Anthéron in France, Progetto Martha Argerich in Lugano, Schubertiade in Porrentruy, and Septembre Musical in Montreux.

In addition to being awarded the Jury Special Prize at the 2011 Tchaikovsky Competition, Poizat has earned prizes at significant competitions, including Grand Prix at the 2004 International Competition for the Youth in Kassel, Germany, the 2007 Young Soloist Prize of the Radios Francophones Publiques, First Prize at the 2009 International Competition for the Youth of Oldenburg, First Prize at the 2009 Elise Meyer Competition in Hambourg, Germany, the 2012 Soloist Prize of the Migros Cultural Percentage in Zürich, and was selected as a finalist at the 2013 Clara Haskil Competition in Vevey, Switzerland.

Poizat’s most recent CD, PianOrchestra, vol. 2 was released on the Ars Produktion label in April 2018. He has recorded 3 other discs for Piano Classics and Naxos. In addition to his performing and recording activities, Mr. Poizat is the director of the International Puplinge Classique Festival in Geneva, a position he has held since 2010.

François-Xavier Poizat holds degrees from the Geneva Conservatory, Hamburg Conservatory, and the Juilliard School studying with Alexeï Golovin, Evgeni Koroliov, Nelson Goerner, and Matti Raekallio. Post-graduate study was at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome under the guidance of Benedetto Lupo.
