Naumburg Orchestral Concerts season finale on August 4
Series presents Nosky's Baroque Band with trumpet soloist Steve Marquardt
Program includes music by Corelli, Bach, Telemann, and Torelli
On Tuesday, August 4 at 7:30 pm, Naumburg Orchestral Concerts welcomes Nosky's Baroque Band back to the Naumburg Bandshell in Central Park (mid-park at 72nd St.) for its season finale with baroque trumpet soloist Steve Marquardt. The concert is free and will be broadcast live and streamed on WQXR radio.
Nosky's Baroque Band is an all-star early music ensemble led by violinist Aisslinn Nosky, who is also concert master of Boston's Handel and Haydn Society.
The program includes Telemann's Burlesque de Quixotte Suite, a work that paints Don Quixote's most famous scenes through strings, including charging at windmills, longing for Princess Dulcinea, and Pancho Sanza being tossed into the air for not paying for their stay at an inn. Marquardt joins the ensemble for Torelli's Trumpet Concerto in D and Telemann's Concerto for Trumpet and Strings, bookending an evening that includes Corelli, Bach, and more Telemann in between.
