Ukrainian-American violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv’s new album “Music of Resilience” is released on August 28 on Naxos
Album celebrates rich musical heritage of Ukraine, giving voice to both living composers and lesser-known figures from her country with world premiere recordings
Ivakhiv is joined by the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic and INSO-Lviv Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic, with conductors Serhii Khorovets and Roman Kreslenko

Violinist Solomiya Ivakhiv continues to champion the rich musical heritage of her native Ukraine on her new album “Music of Resilience,” out August 28, 2026 on Naxos (8.579191). The album is a collection of works by both living and lesser-known Ukrainian composers spanning the past century. All of the selections are world premiere recordings.
Ivakhiv performs with two orchestras that are in residence at the Lviv National Philharmonic: the INSO-Lviv, led by Roman Kreslenko, and the Academic Symphony Orchestra, led by Serhii Khorovets. The recording was made in Lviv under the constant threat of Russian missile attacks.
The collection brings together compositions that reflect the breadth, depth, and enduring vitality of Ukrainian musical expression. Victoria Vita Polevá’s searing lament Bucha. Lachrimosa, was written in 2022 in direct response to a brutal massacre in a Kyiv suburb. Hanna Havrylets' Ex Libris, written in 1993, draws on Ukrainian folk traditions through its distinctive ornamentation and lyricism. Havrylets died in the first week of the war when she suffered a medical emergency and medics were unable to reach her. Other works on the album include Bohdan Kryvopust's On the River - a powerfully commemorative piece that was commissioned by Ivakhiv and MATI (Music at the Institute at Ukrainian Institute of America), and Kryvopust's Ukrainian Suite. Representing an earlier generation are two richly Romantic works by composers whose careers flourished outside of Ukraine: Osyp Zalesky and Roman Prydatkevych (heard here in arrangements by Bohdana Frolyak). The collection concludes with Yuriy Shevchenko’s paraphrase on the melody of Ukraine’s national anthem.
